About This Role
We're seeking a Backend Engineer to help build the robust, scalable infrastructure that powers MyDentalPractice. You'll work with our NestJS/Node.js backend, PostgreSQL database, and various integrations including payment processors, SMS gateways, and more.
Our platform handles sensitive patient data, appointment scheduling, treatment records, and financial transactions for dental clinics. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring our systems are reliable, secure, and performant.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement RESTful APIs using NestJS and TypeScript
- Write efficient database queries and optimize PostgreSQL performance
- Implement robust authentication, authorization, and multi-tenant data isolation
- Build integrations with third-party services (Paystack, SMS providers, etc.)
- Write comprehensive tests and maintain high code coverage
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response
- Document APIs and technical specifications
- Collaborate with frontend team on API contracts and data requirements
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of backend development experience with Node.js/TypeScript
- Strong experience with NestJS or similar frameworks (Express, Fastify)
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and ORM tools (Prisma preferred)
- Understanding of RESTful API design principles
- Experience with authentication systems (JWT, OAuth)
- Knowledge of security best practices for handling sensitive data
- Familiarity with Docker and deployment pipelines
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with healthcare data compliance (HIPAA concepts)
- Knowledge of message queues (Redis, RabbitMQ)
- Experience with monitoring tools (Sentry, Datadog)
- Background in multi-tenant SaaS architectures
- Experience with payment integrations in Africa
